05 Sep Surf Snowdonia Corporate Days Out: The John Lewis Partnership
The John Lewis Partnership’s surf club visited in July 2018. There were ten colleagues booked in to surf.
What did they do?
The JLP surf club caters for surfers of all abilities, including absolute beginners. The guys booked in for two sessions of beginner and intermediate lessons, split by a break for lunch at the deli. There were refreshments in the bar after the afternoon session. There were 8 beginner surfers and 2 intermediates.

What they told us:
When we arrived, we were welcomed, checked in and given clear instructions about where to change and find the surf academy. It wasn’t long before we meet our instructors Ailsa and Tom: they took us through the basics indoors before leading us out to the lagoon.
The beginners’ lessons were very comprehensive and there was a lot of one-on-one time offered where needed, which was hugely appreciated by those who had never surfed before. All of the beginners absolutely loved it.
For us intermediate surfers, the surf was good and we enjoyed the opportunity to get up and ride into the re-form to get some open wave. Although the whitewater was powerful it was good to know that you were in a controlled environment – no worries about getting into trouble when you fell off.
The venue was way beyond what we were expecting: being able to surf with a backdrop of such breath-taking scenery was a first for sure. The icing on the cake was that our time on the waves was topped off with a great England football win over Sweden – it certainly allowed us to make the most of the facilities and unwind nicely.
We’re planning on coming back as a group again next year, but I’m sure many of us will come back as individuals under our own steam too. We had an amazing day: there isn’t one aspect of the whole experience that doesn’t get a 5-star rating.
